Meet Our Team in Medicine Hat

Dr. Cory McClung completed his undergraduate degree with distinction in business studies at the University of Alberta in 2010. He then went on to study optometry at the University of Waterloo, graduating with honours in 2014. 

As a young child with a father who was an optometrist, Dr. McClung remembers spending many Saturdays at the office cleaning or playing with various lenses, and developing a love of physics, healthcare, and people. As an optometrist, Dr. McClung has a specific interest in ocular disease, pediatric optometry, and urgent eye care. Since graduating, Dr. McClung has enjoyed a balanced life of helping patients with their visual and ocular health needs, as well as spending time with his wife and 4 children.  

When he’s not working, Dr. McClung enjoys dancing with his wife and playing music like piano, organ, percussion, and guitar. He also enjoys listening to, writing, and recording music. He can often be seen rollerblading to and from work (as the Canadian weather permits, of course). Dr. McClung has enjoyed being a member of the 20/20 team for the past several years and is excited to continue to help Medicine Hat with its vision and eye health needs into the future.

Dr. Clark Hyde graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2011. While in optometry school, he completed clinical externships in both Michigan and Utah, focusing on pediatrics and ocular disease.

Dr. Hyde is passionate about specialty contact lenses, advancements in ocular technology, pediatric eye care, and ocular disease, and is an academic lecturer and presenter. Since becoming an optometrist, Dr. Hyde has performed over 100 classroom presentations about light, optics, anatomy, and ocular health to local high schools, junior high schools, and elementary schools. His lectures are known for being very educational, extremely fun, and interactive. Dr. Hyde has also lectured to his optometric peers at provincial continuing education courses for the Alberta Association of Optometrists. 

Dr. Hyde’s insights have also gone beyond the clinic and classroom. He is a published author in the internationally recognized scientific journal Optometry and Vision Science. You can find a shortened abstract of his article here, but reading the full 4-page article is definitely worth your time. In 2021, Dr. Hyde was elected to serve as a council member of the Alberta College of Optometrists, where he continues to serve. Dr. Hyde is also the past president of the Medicine Hat Optometric Society and a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists’ political action committee as well as the continuing competence committee. Dr. Hyde is also the recipient of the COVD Award of Excellence in Vision Therapy. 

The biggest priority in Dr. Hyde’s life is his family—he and his wife are the parents of 5 children. Dr. Hyde is very active with his church and would be more than happy to tell you about it if you ask him. He has also volunteered in several organizations, such as Scouts Canada, Praxis science outreach, the CNIB, and the many sports leagues that his children participate in.

When he’s not working, He regularly coaches sports teams ranging from tiny tots soccer, softball, spring basketball, indoor soccer, and junior varsity volleyball. Dr. Hyde also enjoys mountain biking and playing basketball and volleyball (if he can find spare time!).

Dr. Michael McClung has 4 children and 12 grandchildren. Family is his ultimate love, but kayaking is his all-time favourite sport. Dr. McClung graduated from Pacific University, Oregon, in 1986. Dr. McClung practiced in Edmonton for a short while before making the move to Medicine Hat. In 1987, he took over the office and patient care from Dr. Robin McQuarry, who first started the office in 1952. 

Dr. McClung enjoys the slower pace and family life of Medicine Hat and is proud to call Medicine Hat home. It has been very rewarding for him to see how the office has grown and how it has helped so many people over the years. For Dr. McClung, being an optometrist has been an amazing adventure helping people, and best of all, it’s still lots of fun.

Dr. Hart graduated with a degree in science specializing in Immunology and Infection from the University of Alberta in 2016. After that, he attended optometry school at Pacific University in Oregon, graduating in 2021.

While at school, Dr. Hart took as many electives into different areas of optometry as he could, including sports vision therapy, specialty contact lenses, management of dry eye and ocular surface disease, as well as ocular emergencies. He finds all the different possibilities within optometry exciting, and has found the most satisfaction in finding the unique solutions that fit his patients needs. This is part of why he loves practicing in Alberta where optometrists have the most progressive scope of practice in Canada; and why he enjoys being part of the 20/20 team and their commitment to excellent patient care.

Dr. Hart is married with three wonderful children who enjoy wrestling and piggy back rides. He also enjoys spending time outdoors hunting, horseback riding, and working with cows (if you ever need an extra hand at your branding, he is more than happy to help!).

Dr. Jodi Sehn completed her Honours Biochemistry degree at the University of Saskatchewan and her Doctor of Optometry at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. She started practicing in B.C. but ended up moving to Seattle, where her husband’s family resides. Three children later, they decided to move to Medicine Hat to be closer to her very large extended family in the area.

Dr. Sehn appreciates the diversity of encounters she gets as a primary care optometrist, from ocular disease to contact lenses and pediatrics to geriatrics. She especially enjoys working with children and has accumulated experience working with them in various contexts, including special needs. Children bring joy to her day!

When not at work, Dr. Sehn and her husband share homeschooling responsibilities for their 4 children. When she has the time, she loves to play the piano, and she can often be found participating at St. Patrick’s Parish. Dr. Sehn enjoys relaxing by watching her garden grow, attempting to grow exotic plants like olives, avocadoes, mangoes, and citrus and getting creative in the kitchen.

Dr. Sehn is excited to be a new member of the 20/20 Vision Care team and feels privileged to be able to provide excellent care to this community of Medicine Hat!

Lindsay’s journey in the optical industry began in Medicine Hat at the age of 17, where she discovered her passion for eyecare. Graduating with honors from NAIT as a Registered Optician. Her commitment to patient and staff relationships led to her appointment as the optical manager in 2020. Lindsay strongly believes in the power of teamwork and has curated a dedicated team focused on delivering the highest level of patient care and satisfaction. This intentional approach to team-building is evident in the exceptional patient experiences that 20/20 Vision Care is known for.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Lindsay cherishes moments with her youngest child, still at home and adores spoiling her two adorable grandbabies. Watching her four older kids forge their paths fills her with pride and joy. Embracing the newfound freedom of (almost) empty nesting, she also enjoys quality time with her husband, cherishing every precious moment together.

When Kathy isn’t checking you in for your eye exam, she can be found at the hockey rink or running track, cheering on her own superstars. As an avid runner herself, she is often seen on Medicine Hat’s trails or at the gym, working out with her family. Her passion is people, so Kathy thoroughly enjoys everyone she meets and greets when you enter the doors at 20/20!

Betty has been part of the 20/20 team for 20+ years. She has filled many different positions within the office but is currently at the front desk checking you in! Her favorite pastime is creating projects in photoshop.

Corrina is a licensed optician and has been in the optical industry since 1991. She has gained a vast amount of experience and knowledge over the years. She is always willing to go the extra mile to find you the perfect pair of eyewear! 

Corrina is a proud mom who can be found at the hockey arena or the horse arena supporting her children’s dreams. When she is not in the arena, you can find her and her family enjoying the outdoors every chance they get!

Mayda started with us in 1998. She has filled many roles in our office, but now she takes care of our accounts receivable and payable. She has met with so many new and past acquaintances and thoroughly enjoys the conversations. When at home, she can be found spending time with her family, friends and two fur babies. She likes movies, reading, baking, and running on her treadmill.

Melissa started with 20/20 Sunwear in the Medicine Hat Mall in 2004. Most of her time there was spent as manager until Sunwear was merged with the downtown location in 2013. Since then, she’s been working with us as an optical assistant. She loves to travel, go to the gym, and live a healthy lifestyle with her husband and son.

Natasha had her first “real job” when she was in high school, working at the 20/20 Sunwear location, and she has been around ever since! Right now, she is the Optical Laboratory Technician for the office. When she’s not working, she plays video and board games with friends or does arts and crafts projects, such as painting miniatures or creating origami Yodas.

Sara has been working for 20/20 Vision Care for most of her life. Once upon a time, she worked in the practice office. However, since 2006 she has been working from home, confirming appointments and doing phone recalls. She has 4 beautiful children, who keep her busy, making working from home that much nicer. She does like to come to Medicine Hat and visit whenever she can.

Stephanie was born and raised in Medicine Hat. She started with us at 20/20 Sunwear when she was just 15 years old. She joined us at 20/20 Vision Care in 2013 and is lovingly referred to as Encyclopedia Steph. She takes care of all our quality control, as she is extremely organized and has an amazing eye for detail.

Tammy has been part of the team since 1997 when there was only one exam room. She has filled almost every role in the office! In 2016 she joined the glasses side and loved assisting patients in choosing new eyewear. Tammy is a mother of 7 children and 3 furbabies which attributes to her kind and patient nature. She loves scrapbooking and spending time with her family.

Kara was born and grew up right here in Medicine Hat. She enjoys being outdoors when she is not doing preliminary testing for patients and doctors. Kara’s favorite activities are camping, hiking, biking, and sightseeing with her long-term boyfriend. She is always smiling and so pleasant to be around!

As a member of the 20/20 Vision Care Team, Roxanne gathers necessary data and helps streamline the patient experience.

Bonnie started at 20/20 Vision Care in 2019. She absolutely loves working in the clinic, both pretesting and the front desk. In her off time, she enjoys spending time with her three kids, extended family and friends. She also loves being outside, hiking, hunting, and anything in the water!

Leanne has lived in Medicine Hat off and on for most of her life. She loves being a part of the 20/20 Vision Care team as an optometric assistant. When not working, she enjoys camping, hiking, and riding bikes with her husband and four boys. If she has time left over for herself, she loves being creative through painting and arts and crafts.

Jamie has been a valued member of our team since 2023. She brings a warm and personable approach to her role, ensuring every patient feels welcome and well-cared for.

Jamie grew up in a small town, cherishing the close-knit community and simple joys of rural life. In 2003, she made the move to Medicine Hat, where she now enjoys the blend of city conveniences and outdoor adventures.

Outside of work, Jamie is a dedicated family woman. She loves spending quality time with her husband, daughter, and son, making memories that last a lifetime. Whether it’s hitting the golf course, curling, camping, or paddle boarding, Jamie is always up for an adventure in the great outdoors.

Alicia is a busy mother of 3; she loves camping and watching her kids play hockey and baseball. Alicia loves the optical industry and will likely be hitting the books to obtain her Optician’s license.

Alison is new to the team, and she has been wearing glasses since she was 5, when she was diagnosed with a lazy eye (amblyopia). A couple of years of doing eye exercises and wearing her glasses has helped correct this. Alison understands the importance of finding a pair of glasses that are not just aesthetically pleasing but practical to daily life. 

Alison has made Canada her home since 2016 and enjoys the summer months so she can take her loving French Bulldogs for walks with her family. Watching Nascar and football has become part of Alison’s new normal.

Alison and her family moved to Medicine hat in 2008 from Grande Prairie, AB. She has been a part of our team since 2017. Alison was originally one of the doctors’ assistants but now does a little bit of everything from front desk reception to kid’s glasses. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and watching her son play hockey.

Karen is one of our licensed opticians. She got her start in a lab cutting lenses, then decided to take the optician course. She started at 20/20 Vision Care in 2019 and has a natural gift for customer service! In her spare time, she loves to read.

Born and raised in Medicine Hat, Keara enjoys playing video games and streaming in her downtime. Any other free time is spent with her black cat Mika, riding horses with her mom, or golfing with her dad. She is also an experienced singer who has performed at the Rotary Music Festival and a few musicals throughout the years. She would love to live in Japan one day and can speak conversational Japanese.

Taya was born in Creston, BC and came to Medicine Hat when she was 2 years old. She joined the 20/20 team right after graduation as an assistant. She has 4 siblings and an amazing nephew with whom she loves spending time. In her spare time, you can find her listening to music or hanging out with her older sister. She is super happy about having the opportunity to join the 20/20 Vision Care team and can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Macey was born and raised in Medicine Hat. She joined the 20/20 team right after graduation. She began pretesting and is now also working at reception. She will take on any task thrown her way and is always there to help with our patients’ needs. Aside from work she is a singer that writes and produces her own music. You can find her in scrubs at the office or at gigs around town. Macey is a passionate person that cannot wait to see what the future holds for her here at 20/20 Vision Care, or in the rest of her life.

Although she has called Medicine Hat home for many years Lindsey grew up in Manitoba, and visits family there whenever she can. Lindsey is one of the very few of us that doesn’t wear glasses, although her children all do. She is extremely creative-everything from Halloween costumes to photography. She is such a great fit in our office with her friendly, outgoing personality and sense of humor. In her spare time she enjoys being outside and traveling.

Ciara, a native of the vibrant city of Medicine Hat, has always had a knack for craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. Over the past five years, she’s carved out her niche in the woodworking industry, establishing a thriving business that reflects her dedication to quality and creativity. However, amidst the sawdust and solitude of her workshop, Ciara found herself yearning for more human connection.

Enter the 20/20 family, where Ciara discovered the perfect blend of camaraderie and challenge. Embracing the opportunity to broaden her horizons, she dove headfirst into this new chapter, eager to soak up every bit of knowledge and experience it had to offer.

When she’s not crafting exquisite pieces or immersed in the dynamic world of 20/20, Ciara can be found on the sidelines, cheering on her three energetic kids as they compete in various sports. Balancing the demands of motherhood with her passion for craftsmanship and community, Ciara epitomizes the modern multitasker, constantly striving to excel in every aspect of her life.

Brooke is the ultimate multitasker, seamlessly donning every hat imaginable.
Whether she’s meticulously pre-testing patients for the clinic, assisting individuals in selecting the perfect pair of glasses, or spreading joy in local senior homes through our IVAN mobile clinic program, Brooke’s dedication knows no bounds.

Outside of work, Brooke’s love for animals shines brightly, particularly evident in her adoration for her beloved Corgi, Rusty, and her energetic Border Collie X, Cersei. Having relocated to Medicine Hat in 2014, Brooke has wholeheartedly embraced the community and its offerings.

When she’s not immersed in her work, you can find her indulging in her passion for the great outdoors, whether it’s hunting, fishing, or camping under the vast Alberta skies.
