Single-Vision & Progressive Lenses

Depending on your prescription, you may need single-vision or progressive lenses:

Zeiss UVProtect

Sun protection is recommended against harmful UV rays up to 400 nm (UV rays at the top end of the spectrum). UV 400 provides significant protection from visible light, including blocking nearly 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

That’s why ZEISS is creating a new standard of care by including full UV protection in all clear plastic lenses. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is always present. All year round, all day, in winter or summer, in sunny and even overcast conditions. Prolonged UV exposure increases health risks, including eye diseases like cataracts and macular degeneration.

ClearView Lenses

Standard Spherical (SPH) SV Lenses

  • Optimized by using only 1 free parameter in the lens radius.
  • Peripheral rays are more strongly refracted than rays at lens centre (spherical aberrations) resulting in optical compromise.
  • Any acceptably flat lens results in peripheral blur for the wearer.
Aspherical Lens

Aspherical (AS) SV Lenses

Optimized by using 5 free parameters in one meridian. One aspherical surface, usually on the front, but the back surface remains a simple toric (2 spheres at 90°).

AS lenses provide optics similar to SPH (spherical), while improving on flatness. Point-by-point optimization and ClearForm manufacturing technology by ZEISS allow for flatter, thinner lenses.

ZEISS ClearView 1.6 SV Lenses are:

  • Up to 25% flatter
  • On average, 8% thinner at the lens centre, and
  • Up to 13% thinner at the lens centre for a +5.00D high sphere power when compared to ZEISS SPH 1.6 FSV lenses
Double Aspherical

Double Aspherical (DAS) SV Lenses

  • Optimized using 9 free parameters in 2 perpendicular meridians and blended in between.
  • Replaces the toric back surface of an AS with 2 aspherical shapes perpendicular to each other (atoric).
  • Improvement on an aspheric design, but blended area still compromises the optics. ( -28% flatter -1% thinner K -14% flatter -9% thinner >( ZEISS AS FSV).

Freeform SV Lenses

  • Point-by-point lens design optimization using >700 free parameters.
  • Highly complex lens surface to overcome the optical compromises inherent in spherical, aspheric, and double aspheric.
  • The result is an SV lens that is thin, achieves excellent optics, and clearer views from the lens centre to the periphery.

ClearView Lens Benefits

Visual clarity simulations show that, on average, ZEISS ClearView FSV Lenses provide a 3 times larger zone of clear vision (compared to regular ZEISS aspherical (AS) FSV lenses).

This clear zone is up to 4.6 times larger for higher myopic (nearsightedness) prescriptions and up to 5.1 times larger for higher hyperope (farsightednss) prescriptions.

The clearer, larger field of vision allows greater comfort for a more natural viewing experience.

Kid’s

Children’s eyes and vision are still developing, which can make them more vulnerable to visual or environmental conditions affecting their lifelong vision. Your child’s glasses can do more than provider sharper vision, including supporting eye health and visual performance.

Children’s lenses from Zeiss offer full UVA and UVB ray protection, blocking up to 400 nm, the level recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Recommendations for Children’s Glasses

  • Children’s lenses should be made of polycarbonate. The material is significantly more impact-resistant than other lens materials, offering added safety.
  • Polycarbonate lenses are lighter than standard plastic lenses, making your child’s glasses more comfortable—especially for strong prescriptions.
  • Polycarbonate lenses have built-in UV protection.
  • 20/20 Vision Care uses quality scratch-resistant coating to protect your child’s lenses, allowing their eyewear to keep up with an active lifestyle.

Sports glasses can help protect eyes from injuries, whether it’s a stray softball or a finger jab on the court. Although polycarbonate lenses can resist impact for everyday wear, standard glasses have a limited area of protection. Your child’s glasses may fall loose or an object may slip through an open corner.

Sports glasses or goggles offer more complete protection. The goggles allow the lens to stay in place, so your child can enjoy uninterrupted vision while keeping their eyes safe.

  • A professional lens coating offers many benefits. It hardens the lens surface, making it more resistant to damage, reduces light reflections on the surface and makes the lens more dirt-resistant and easier to clean. DuraVision Premium lens coatings from ZEISS combine these features in a single, first-class lens coating that meets the most demanding standards.
  • It is also more cosmetically appealing, helping to reduce the “lightning bolt” effect when taking pictures of your kids.

Children’s and adolescent’s eyes are more vulnerable to blue light because their eyes are less able to filter blue light. Cumulative exposure can harm eye tissue, increasing the risk of eye disease later in adulthood.

Exposure to blue light later in the day can also impact sleep quality, contributing to difficulty falling asleep and daytime fatigue.

Ziess’ DuraVision BlueProtect are clear lenses that filter blue light and offer UV protection. The lenses are designed for indoor and outdoor wear, so your child can comfortably wear their lenses all day long.

20+ Lenses

Single vision lenses can provide comfortable vision correction for standard everyday glasses or a child’s first pair of glasses. Zeiss single vision lenses can be optimized for distance vision and reading (near vision)—2 of the most common reasons people wear glasses.

With reading glasses, the lenses are personally fitted to the reader’s standard viewing distance. Creating a lens with your measurements helps improve performance, whether you’re reading from a book or smaller font on a screen.

The ZEISS Single Vision Portfolio

With different classes of quality and performance available—spherical, Aspheric, Optimal, and Individual—we can help you find the best single vision product to meet your vision needs. Each performance tier includes all the benefits of the preceding.

Spherical lenses are a popular choice for single vision reading glasses, available in both plastic and glass, for high and low prescriptions. Spherical are a traditional lens type, and standard for many eyeglasses wearers.

Aspheric lenses are lighter and thinner, with flatter front curvature, but still offer the same power as spherical lenses. The thinner design is appealing for patients with higher prescriptions, as it prevents the eyes from looking magnified.

Zeiss’ point-by-point optimization with freeform technology is designed for sharp vision at all distances with wider fields of view. So whether you’re looking ahead or glancing down, you achieve the same quality of vision—eliminating distortions.
