An Optomap Retinal Exam Provides:
The Optomap takes a very wide scan of the retina to confirm that the peripheral retinal tissues are intact. This gives our doctors a more detailed view of the retina. Your images will be reviewed and it will give you an opportunity to view and discuss the Optomap images of your eye with the doctors at the time of your exam. The images will go on a permanent record for your medical file, enabling our doctors to make important comparisons if potential problems show themselves at a future examination.
Our doctors strongly believe that the Optomap Retinal Exam is an essential part of your comprehensive eye exam and they highly recommend it for all patients. This screening is included in all Adult Exams but is not covered by Alberta Health Care and therefore is optional for Children and Seniors as there is an additional cost.
